Dr. Mardy Grothe is a psychologist who lived and practiced in New England for over twenty-five years. Originally trained as an individual therapist
and marriage counselor, he expanded his practice to the business arena in the early 1980s. He was instrumental in establishing an important sub-specialty in
the field of management consulting — helping business owners, business partners, and top executives resolve personal and interpersonal problems. In 1984, a cover
story in Inc. magazine (titled "Sparring Partners") called him a pioneer in the new and emerging field of "business therapy." Much of his work is now
better described by expressions like Executive Coaching and Team-Building.
In addition to his clinical practice and consulting work, Grothe is also an engaging and entertaining speaker. He has given more than five hundred seminars on the topic
of leadership to groups associated with "Vistage," an international network of CEOs (formerly known as TEC, for "The Executive Committee"). He is also a popular speaker at the annual meetings of
trade and professional associations. His seminars and speeches are on topics such as "Effective Leadership," "Forging the Leader-Follower Connection,"
and "Creative Conflict Resolution."

Dealing With Difficult Colleagues (England, 1996)
And six books in the "word and language" arena:

Chiasmus and a World of Quotations That Mean What They Say and Say What They Mean
(Viking, 1999)
Oxymoronica:

These books reflect Grothe's longstanding interest in words, language, and quotations. As some people collect coins or stamps or butterflies, he is
a passionate quotation collector, with well over 100,000 quotations in his personal collection. In the coming years, he looks forward to producing more books
in this area.
His future book projects include such titles as:
Luxurious Wives and Uxorious Husbands
Two Kinds of People and Three Kinds of Lies
The Dictionary of Quotable Definitions & Definitive Quotes
Chaste Makes Waste & Familiarity Breeds Consent
Born and raised in North Dakota, Grothe graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1964. In the mid-1960s he worked for three years as Director of
Student Activities at Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin. In 1968, he embarked on a doctoral program in psychology at Columbia University in New York City,
receiving his Ph.D. in 1974. For many years, Grothe lived in the western suburbs of Boston. In 2005, he and his wife Katherine moved to Raleigh, North Carolina.
They have four grown children and one grandchild.
